The Beatniks are the American counter-culture movement the 1950s. They eschewed cookie-cutter 50s conformity and enforced happiness, in favor of the lived, authentic experience. Essentially, the Beatniks are the forerunners to the modern-day hipster. They are depicted as sunglasses and beanie-wearing, bongo drum-banging, daddy-o hepcats who think you're a square. Carmen and Lisette were part of the Beatnik movement for a while. They still go to Beat music and poetry nights every now and then.
Greasers, also known as Rockers, Ton-Up Boys, and Hoods, were a subculture of the mid-century, known for their rebellious attitude and love of Rockabilly music. They are often depicted with slicked-back hair, leather jackets, and blue jeans. Greasers are known to drive fast hot rods, ride motorcycles, drink, gamble, and smoke. Mos are working-class Italians, Irish, or Latinos. Carmen became a Greaser girl for a while when she started dating Max Genovese. Eugene is also sometimes a Greaser.
